The genotoxic effects of exposure of mouse neuronal cells to a 60 Hz magnetic field should be investigated.
In previous studies by the authors, the genotoxic effects of extremely low frequency magnetic fields in several epithelial and fibroblast cell lines had been investigated (Lee et al. 2012, Jin et al. 2014, Jin et al. 2012, Jin et al. 2015, Yoon et al. 2014). With this article, the study series has been expanded by research on neuronal cells.
Mouse hippocampus neuronal cells were divided into two groups: exposure to the magnetic field and sham exposure.
A positive control was performed. All results were obtained from at least three replicate experiments.

After 6 hours of exposure, cell numbers were significantly higher in the exposure group compared to the sham exposure group. All other parameters did not show any significant differences at any time point between exposed and sham exposed cells.
