To study the effect of long-term exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic field on some somatic and neural characteristics in neurodefective Lurcher mutant (+/Lc) and normal wild type mice (+/+).
Both newborn (n=162) and young adult (3 months, n=94) animals were exposed to radio frequency electromagnetic field (870 MHz) from 1st to 21st day (2.5 h daily) or from 91st to 120th day (3 h daily) respectively. In all animals the development of body weight was observed. Additionally, in the exposed adult animals the spatial learning ability, motor functions and CNS excitability was studied.

The exposed animals exhibited mild differences of body weight compared to unexposed controls. The long-term exposure did not significantly influence the ability to learn in the Morris water maze. Significant lower swimming speed was found in the irradiated Lurcher mutant mice when compared to controls. No significant differences were found between irradiated animals and controls in the CNS excitability and motor functions.
