この研究は、妊娠初期の一般的な電気製品へのばく露と先天性心疾患との関連を調べるため、2014-2016年に中国陝西省の西安にある6つの病院で、2339人が参加する症例対照研究を実施した。先天性心疾患の幼児症例は全員、国際疾病分類第10版（ICD-10）に従って診断された。対照は症例と同じ病院で生まれ、出生日でマッチングした、先天性欠損症のない新生児で、症例１人に対して3人とした。妊娠中の電気製品へのばく露についての情報収集のため、母親に対して個人インタビューを実施した。多変量ロジスティック回帰を用いて、先天性心疾患に対する一般的な電気製品へのばく露の影響を推定した。その結果、コンピュータ（オッズ比（OR）= 1.33、95%信頼区間（CI）= 1.03-1.71）、誘導加熱式（IH）調理器（OR = 2.79、95% CI = 2.19-3.55）、電子レンジ（OR = 1.53、95% CI = 1.01-2.31）について、妊娠初期の母親のばく露が新生児の先天性心疾患に影響した可能性が高いことが認められた。妊娠初期に電磁波防護衣を着用していた母親では新生児の先天性心疾患のリスク低下が認められた（OR = 0.67、95% CI = 0.52-0.87）。IH調理器へのばく露と電磁波防護衣の着用との間には相互作用が認められた、と著者らは報告している。
