Biochemistry. A common secondary structure occurring in many proteins. It consists of several polypeptide chains running in parallel or alternating directions in a zigzag pattern. The polypeptide chains are connected by intermolecular hydrogen bonds. For example, silk is a protein with beta sheet structure.
