ubiquitin

German: Ubiquitin
Japanese: ユビキチン

Biochemistry. A small peptide of 76 amino acids present in all eucaryotic cells. Ubiquitin plays an important role in intracellular protein breakdown. It attaches to a protein which is damaged or no longer needed by the body. This ubiquitinated protein is recognized and then degraded in a proteasome.
