Biology. One of the two major groups of organisms, including all animals, plants, protozoa and fungi. Eukaryotes are organisms whose cells have a true nucleus with chromosomes bounded by a nuclear membrane. Furthermore they have membrane-bound organelles such as endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. Opposed to prokaryotes.
