Enzymology. An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidation of a substrate by transferring hydrogen to an acceptor compound, usually the coenzymes NAD+, NADP+ or FAD. Dehydrogenases are usually designated according to the hydrogen donor, e.g., lactate dehydrogenase.
