To investigate the effects of a static magnetic fileds of 10 and 25mT on several cardiovascular parameters in reserpin-induced hypotensive rats.
A total of 60 animals were divided into 6 experimental groups; either non-exposed or exposed to a static magnetic field of 10 mT and 25 mT, respectively. Animals were treated similarly with saline injection or alernatively with reserpine (5 mg/kg). During a 12 week magnetic field exposure effects on the cardiovascular system were determined: e.g. blood pressure, heart rate, blood level of vasoacitve substances, and behavioural changes.

Additional info | Animals were divided into 6 group (n=10 each): Group 1: no exposure with intraperitoneal (ip) saline injection, group 2: 10 mT exposure with ip saline injection, group 3: 25 mT with ip saline injection, group 4: no exposure with ip reserpine (RES) injection, group 5: 10 mT with ip RES injection and group 6: 25 mT with ip RES injection |

Chamber | Acrylic cage/ 40 x 24 x 20 cm³ lwh |
Setup | Plates were attached to both outer walls of the cage which was designated as (x,y,z) = (0,0,0) and the animal's head position was in the range of (x,y,z) = (±19 cm,±8 cm, ±12 cm) |
Additional info | The minimum distance between the inside magnetic plates was 26 cm. |

It was found that the 25 mT magnetic field, but not the 10 mT field, significantly reversed the reserpine-induced effects such as reduced blood pressure, and altered FOB parameters.
