Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Effects of 25 mT static magnetic field on blood pressure in reserpine-induced hypotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats med./bio.

Published in: Bioelectromagnetics 2005; 26 (1): 36-48

Aim of study (acc. to author)

To investigate the effects of a static magnetic fileds of 10 and 25mT on several cardiovascular parameters in reserpin-induced hypotensive rats.

Background/further details

A total of 60 animals were divided into 6 experimental groups; either non-exposed or exposed to a static magnetic field of 10 mT and 25 mT, respectively. Animals were treated similarly with saline injection or alernatively with reserpine (5 mg/kg). During a 12 week magnetic field exposure effects on the cardiovascular system were determined: e.g. blood pressure, heart rate, blood level of vasoacitve substances, and behavioural changes.

Setup Plates were attached to both outer walls of the cage which was designated as (x,y,z) = (0,0,0) and the animal's head position was in the range of (x,y,z) = (±19 cm,±8 cm, ±12 cm)
Additional info The minimum distance between the inside magnetic plates was 26 cm.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

It was found that the 25 mT magnetic field, but not the 10 mT field, significantly reversed the reserpine-induced effects such as reduced blood pressure, and altered FOB parameters.
