Oncology. A malignant disease of the blood-forming organs that involves leukocytes and their precursors in the bone marrow. It is characterised by an abnormal increase in the number of leucocytes in the circulating blood and is classified according to the type of leukocyte most prominently involved (e.g., AML, ALL).
