The German Commission on Radiological Protection (SSK) is an advisory body of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) on issues concerning the protection from the risks of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. The honorary members are appointed by the BMUB. They are independent and not bound by directive. As a result of its advisory activity, SSK decides on scientific and technical statements and recommendations for the BMUB.
