Medical engineering. The cardiac pacemaker is inhibited when the patient's intrinsic rate is higher than the set pace rate. A stimulus by the cardiac pacemaker is only delivered when the spontaneous rate is lower than the set pace rate. A VVT pacemaker is an example for a demand pacemaker.
