Chemistry. A powerful oxidizing chemical reaction. Iron (Fe2+) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) react together to generate the highly reactive hydroxyl radical (OH·). The Fenton reaction seems to be the main source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells leading to oxidative stress.
