Endocrinology. 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine, T3. A thyroid hormone containing three atoms of iodine. It is produced in smaller quantities than the thyroid hormone thyroxine. Triiodothyronine has several times the biological activity of thyroxine and is produced by deiodination of thyroxine in the peripheral tissues.
