Biochemistry. A nucleotide containing the purine base guanin, the sugar ribose and two phosphate groups. GDP serves as a substrate for a phosphorylation reaction of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. It is the product of GTP dephosphorylation by the G proteins during signal transduction.
