Epidemiology. The process of selecting subjects for epidemiologic studies. By selecting the individuals, the study group and comparison group are similar in specified characteristics (confounders), such as age, sex, and socioeconomic status (education, income class, number of children). There are two types of matching: individual matching or frequency matching.
