Chemistry. The hydrogen ion concentration [H+] used as a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution on a scale of 0-14. Numerically the pH is approximately equal to the negative logarithm of hydrogen ion concentration expressed in molarity. pH 7 is neutral, above 7 is alkaline and below is acidic.
