Physics. Detection and measurement of ionizing radiation using a scintillation counter. The radiation is absorbed by a scintillation crystal which results in minute flashes of light that are detected by a photocathode and an electronic counter. Scintillation counting is a standard laboratory technique to measure the content of a radioactive labeled substance in a probe.
