Physiology. One of the two major pharmacologically defined classes of adrenergic receptors that respond to epinephrine and to such blocking agents as propranolol. They are subdivided into beta-1 (lipolysis and cardiostimulation) and beta-2-adrenergic receptors (bronchodilation and vasodilation).
