Molecular genetics. A lab technique used to find out if there are proteins binding a fragment of DNA. It is based on the
observation that peptide-DNA complexes migrate through polyacrylamide gels
more slowly than free DNA fragments because larger complexes are more retarded than smaller ones. This assay is for example used for the identification of sequency-specific DNA-binding proteins as well as transcription factors.
