Electromagnetism. Acronym for pulsating electromagnetic field and pulsed electromagnetic field. PEMF promotes bone and cartilage growth and is used for example in therapy of nonunion fractures. PEMF creates microcurrents in the body’s tissues that elicit specific biological responses depending on field parameters (e.g. amplitude, frequency and waveform).
