Underground cables are installed in the ground for the transmission of energy or information. They are protected from chemical decomposition and damaging caused by rodents through their cable sheath. Additionally, they are installed in a sand layer for the sake of protection from vibrations at a depth of 60 – 100 cm, according to their transmitted voltage. Underground cables can be operated either with three-phase alternating current or direct current (HVDC).
