TETRA base stations are sorted into the following power classes (P is the power of one transmitter):
class1: P = 40 W
class 2: P = 25 W
class 3: P = 16 W
class 4: P = 10 W
class 5: P = 6.3 W
class 6: P = 4 W
class 7: P = 2.5 W
class 8: P = 1.6 W
class 9: P = 1 W
class 10: P = 0.6 W
For the safety of citizens, in Germany, the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway (Bundesnetzagentur) has to approve the building of a new base station with a transmission power > 10 W in form of a site approval. This also applies to base stations with a transmission power < 10 W if there are already other transmitters at the location of interest.
