Biochemistry. Endogenous neuropeptides consisting of five amino acids that bind to opioid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems. They act similar to morphine and reduce the sensation of pain. Furthermore they are involved in mood, behavior, and neuroendocrine regulation.
