Analytic chemistry. A technique to separate substances at high resolution. The mobile phase is a liquid, which is forced under high pressure through a column packed with a sorbent. A detector at the end of the column is coupled to a chart recorder which graphs the sample efflux. Various separation methods, including adsorption, gel filtration, and ion-exchange are used.
