Physics. A technique detecting radioactive spots in a sample. The specimen containing radioactive atoms is overlaid with an X-ray film, revealing the localisation of radioactivity as a pattern of black stains. The technique can be used to visualise radioactively labelled molecules (e.g. DNA fragments) after separating by gel electrophoresis.
