Report of a clinical trial on treatment of osteoporosis with low frequency magnetic fields.
52 patients were selected on the basis of age, anamnesis, clinical symptoms and radiographic and mineralometric determinations.

Setup | The generator of the solenoidal field (60 cm diameter) run along the major axis of the patient's bed. |
Measurand | Value | Type | Method | Mass | Remarks |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
magnetic flux density | 5 mT | minimum | - | - | when early analgic effect expected |
magnetic flux density | 3 mT | minimum | - | - | 3-4 mT for causal treatment |
Positive results on pain and functionality with a global improvement in motor activity were obtained in 80-90% of the cases after the first or second cycle; a third cycle seemed to be indicated to stabilize early results. The demineralization process did not get worse (steady state level in the loss of bone tissue).
