Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Sensitive model with which to detect athermal effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation tech./dosim.

Published in: Bioelectromagnetics 1989; 10 (4): 347-354

Aim of study (acc. to editor)

To design a simple, well-characterized, and quantifiable system to clarify the potential of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation to cause biological effects by athermal mechanisms and whose processes can be examined individually at the molecular level.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

It was shown that the assessment of β-galactosidase activity in E.coliJM101 containing the plasmid pUC8 provides a sensitive assay and that the sensitivity and reproducibility are sufficient to evaluate potential biological effects of a wide range of electromagnetic fields.
